Abstract  Based on the revival and development over half a century, Chinese human geography plays a key role in promoting national economic and social development. In the context of the new era, man-earth areal system will still be taken as the core of future development of Chinese human geography, arming to build the scientific outlook on development with a harmonious man-earth relationship. Then, related theories and methods are needed to be reinforced to push forward the research of man-earth relationship. Besides, great efforts will be made to set up a discipline system of human geography with Chinese characteristics, geared to national strategic needs and practical application. Specifically, new practical patterns should be highlighted and the following eight aspects will be taken as main fields for further research of Chinese human geography, namely "globalization and localization", "naturalization and localization", "industrialization and urbanization", "integration and urban integration", "centralization and hollowing", "information and visualization", "ecology and low-carbonation", and "scientism and modernization". Moreover, new practical patterns could challenge classical theories especially western traditional classical theories, face reality to publicize truth to the power, could be scientific warriors to advocate scientific spirit. In addition, several fields deserve further study as followings. Firstly, the discipline system of culture geography should be build systematically with the rapid development of national cultural industries. Secondly, the width and depth of the research of behavioral geography should be further explored, especially strengthening the experimental research. Thirdly, more attention should be paid to correlative researches on neo-geopolitics, urban political geography and local political geography. Finally, the data of 6th National Population Census of China should be made full use to driving flourish development of social geography.
